Today we go to an excursion to Baltiysk - a city with an amazing military history, which was repeatedly subjected to the seizures of Swedish, German and Russian troops.
But Pillau (former name), even being a German city, was closely connected with Russia:
Peter I visited the city three times, and now in Baltiysk there is his monument six and a half meters high.
And during the Seven Years' War, when Prussia was occupied by Russian troops, an Orthodox church was built in Pillau.
In our times, a monument to Empress Elizabeth Petrovna was also erected here, which is the largest equestrian monument to a woman in the world.
Agree, it's worth looking at!
Modern Baltiysk is also the headquarter of the Baltic Fleet of Russia, where flagships and destroyers moored along the coastline, so foreign citizens need a special pass (which can be issued at Baltma Tours) to visit Baltiysk.
Another feature of Baltiysk is the Navy's Day, which is annually celebrated on a large scale and is an amazing and very spectacular spectacle that cannot be missed!
Not every day it’s possible to see warships “in action”, as well as a vivid parade of officers and sailors.
Come to Baltiysk to see everything with your own eyes!
